Para-Equestrian Canada Achieves an Additional Riding Spot at 2008 Paralympic Games

Ottawa, ON—Para-Equestrian Canada has received notification from the Federation Equestre International (FEI) that they have achieved an additional rider spot for the 2008 Paralympic Games.

Canada had already qualified to send a team of four riders to the 2008 Paralympic Games in Hong Kong this summer, and will now be sending a total of five horses and riders to compete.

“We are thrilled to have an opportunity to send an even stronger team to the 2008 Paralympic Games” remarked Elizabeth Quigg-Robinson, Chef d’équipe for the Canadian Paralympic Team. “Our athletes have been very competitive all year, so we are looking forward to representing Canada at the Games”.

As per FEI regulations, the additional riding slot will be used for a 1B rider who has qualified under the FEI/national federation criteria.

The XIIIth Paralympic Summer Games will be held in Beijing, China, from September 6–17, 2008. The equestrian events will take place in Hong Kong from September 7–11, 2008.

At the 2004 Paralympic Games, Karen Brain of Saanichton, BC, scored a major victory for Canada by winning a bronze medal in both the Grade IV Championship Test and Freestyle Test at the Markopoulo Equestrian Centre near Athens, Greece.
