Is a barn complete without barn cats? Their casual role as friends, therapy animals, and mischief-makers shouldn’t be taken for granted, but they also occupy an important working niche in the barnyard ecosystem by keeping haylofts and feed rooms pest-free. While they might work hard for their keep, they’re pretty good at relaxing, too. Whether they’re aloof aisle strutters, clingy tackroom snugglers, or lazy hayloft nappers, all barn cats have one thing in common: purr-sonality.

Enjoy these pics of some of the most photogenic mousers from barns across Canada!

(If you are looking for feline ‘barn staff’, your local humane society or cat rescue may have a ‘Barn Buddies’ program for kitties who would be more comfortable in a warm barn than a busy home environment. And please remember, if you feed ’em, fix em!)
