The Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) has announced today that the Canadian Show Jumping Team’s results from the Lima 2019 Pan Am Games have been recalculated to seventh, and its team quota for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games has been reallocated to Argentina.
The recalculation was performed by Panam Sports following a hearing before the Panam Sports Disciplinary Commission on Dec. 4, 2019 regarding the B sample test of athlete Nicole Walker, which confirmed the presence of benzoylecgonine – a Prohibited Substance under the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code. The Commission decided that Nicole’s results from both the team and individual competitions at Lima 2019 are disqualified and replaced by those of team member, Lisa Carlsen. The resulting recalculation moved Canada from fourth place to seventh.
EC remains firmly committed to clean sport and to standing behind our athletes. We fully support Nicole’s decision to bring an appeal forward to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
“I am confident that Team Canada and Nicole will receive a fair hearing before the Court of Arbitration for Sport,” said Tim Danson, Nicole’s lawyer.
In order to maintain the integrity of the ongoing legal process, EC will not comment further on this case at this time.
