A familiar face at Spruce Meadows is officially calling Canada home.
Long-time Spruce Meadows competitor Kyle King has traded in the stars and stripes for the maple leaf, becoming a Canadian citizen in a ceremony on June 12.
King has been a part of the Spruce Meadows family since his teenage years, spending countless summers working his way through the ranks — from the developing divisions to the International Ring. While he has earned numerous top results over the years, 2025 marked a breakthrough season. Victories and podium finishes in some of Spruce Meadows’ most prestigious competitions, including the Jayman BUILT Cup, the ATCO Queen Elizabeth II Cup, and the CPKC ‘International’, presented by Rolex, established him among the sport’s elite.
Those standout performances also earned King his first opportunity to compete in Europe, highlighted by an appearance at CHI Geneva.
King remarked on the occasion, “I’m Canadian citizen. I’ll be a dual citizen. But I’m going to choose to ride for Canada because I think it’s going to offer me a lot more opportunities. I have some really special horses like I’ve never had in my career. They [the Canadian Equestrian team members] have been really welcoming to me, the whole Canadian team. I’ve grown up with most of them, the senior members on the team.”
Congratulations to Kyle on this exciting milestone. We look forward to seeing him continue his journey under the Canadian flag.
