Thousands of fans were treated to a spectacular Canada Day at Spruce Meadows, topped off by an exciting Canada Cup Derby on the International Ring. The first 3,000 fans through the gate enjoyed a complimentary BBQ courtesy of ATCO and Pepsi, family friendly entertainment including the wildly-popular Corgi races, shopping, a wide variety of food and beverage choices, and to cap the day off, an outstanding performance by Canadian country artist Brett Kissel.

The Canada Cup Derby featured a challenging derby-style track designed by Spanish FEI course designer Santiago Varela. This class marked the first time through the Clock Tower for many of the athletes, both horses and riders.

Nine combinations cleared the first round course and advanced to the jump-off. Ireland’s Jordan Coyle held down top spot with a clear jump-off time of 34.40 seconds riding King Kannan GP until younger brother Daniel, last to go in the order aboard his new mount Calippo 57, took all the risks and stopped the timers in a speedy 34.16 seconds. Kyle King and Odysseus placed third, just 1/100th of a second behind Jordan.
