The Tourmaline Oil Cup 1.60m opened the competition for the TELUS Evening of the Horse, bringing 32 horse-and-rider combinations onto the iconic International Ring.
FEI course designer Leopoldo Palacios (VEN) set a challenging track featuring 13 obstacles and 16 jumping efforts. The competition also represented the final opportunity for individual athletes not competing as members of a BMO Nations’ Cup team to qualify for Sunday’s $5 million CPKC ‘International’, presented by Rolex.

Just five combinations successfully navigated the first round without fault to advance to the jump-off. Germany’s André Thieme and DSP Chakaria produced the fastest clear round of the final, stopping the clock in 43.35 seconds to claim the Tourmaline Oil Cup.

The ATCO Electric Six Bar once again delivered one of the most thrilling spectacles of the TELUS Evening of the Horse, with the iconic competition taking place under the lights on Friday night at the 2026 Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’. The Six Bar challenged horse-and-rider combinations to clear a line of six fences, with the height increasing after each successful round.
Eight combinations stepped up, including Canada’s Kyle King and Odysseus, with just three advancing to the final round: Armando Trapote (ESP), Daniel Coyle (IRL), and Sanne Thijssen (NED). With the final fence standing at 2.05 metres (6.72 feet), the pressure was on.
Thijssen, aboard the bay gelding King Blue, showed exactly how it was done. The pair were the only combination to clear the final fence, soaring over the massive obstacle to claim victory.
The excitement continued after the final fence, as the Celle Stallions took centre stage under the lights, captivating the crowd with their spectacular performance. The evening was then capped off in spectacular fashion with fireworks set to music performed live by the Band of the Welsh Guards, bringing the TELUS Evening of the Horse to a memorable close.
Earlier in the day, the Paramount Resources Cup 1.45m provided the only opportunity for 2* athletes to compete on the iconic International Ring during the 2026 Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’. A total of 42 athletes contested the competition, with just three producing clear first-round efforts to advance to the jump-off.
Nayel Nassar (EGY) and Ivory TCS delivered a decisive performance in the final round, crossing the finish line in the fastest time of 44.17 seconds to claim victory. Several Canadian riders placed in the top 10: Kyle King and Ninja BF (6th); Carly Stevens and Springsteen (7th) and Brian Morton with Baton Rouge (9th).
