The final day of competition during The Fork at Tryon International, presented by Yanmar America and running Sept. 11-14, featured show jumping and cross-country, with winners crowned across all divisions following exciting rounds on the White Oak Cross-Country Course and in Tryon Stadium.

Lindsay Traisnel and Bacyrouge Command Late Surge in CCI4*-S

Canada claimed a big win in the CCI4*-S, secured by Lindsay Traisnel and Bacyrouge (Mylord Carthago X Lelia), her own 2011 Selle Francais gelding. The pair added just 6.8 time penalties on the final cross-country phase, resulting in a final score of 40.4 points – bounding up the leaderboard from 6th after show jumping to 1st.

Traisnel was thrilled with their weekend at Tryon International. “’Dreamy’ is such an incredible partner; he truly gives me his all in every phase.” She added that her horse “felt amazing out on course – bold and brave, yet rideable!”

With her sights set on the upcoming Maryland CCI5*, October 15-19 at Fair Hill, Traisnel noted, “We chose Tryon as our final prep run, because the team here always does an outstanding job with the cross-country footing.”

The leading team through the dressage and show jumping phases, Boyd Martin (USA) and Luke 140 kept a tight grip on the podium through all three phases, but had to settle for second place with an overall score of 43.3 points after 15.6 expensive cross-country time penalties. Moving up from fifth, Martin took third with Shanroe Cooley on a score of 44.9 points.

Waylon Roberts Pilots Chevalier to CCI 3*-S Win

In the largest division of the weekend, Waylon Roberts (CAN) and Chevalier (Cabardino X Play For Keeps) came out on top in the CCI 3*-S division among 36 entries, climbing to the top of the rankings from an initial 18th place after the dressage phase. Incurring only 1.2 faults on the cross-country track designed by Clayton Fredericks, he finished on a final score of 36.1 points with the 2012 Holsteiner/Hanoverian gelding owned by Carol Wiley. With 4.8 penalties in the final phase, Zachary Brandt (USA) and Kassiopea Preziosa collected 37.2 points to earn reserve honours. Madison Temkin (USA) rose from seventh place after her cross-country trip to finish in third overall with a score of 39.9 with Fernhill Bertus.

Roberts also placed 4th riding Fernhill Salt Lake, and was closely followed by fellow Canadian Dana Cooke riding FE Quattro and FE Damaskus in 5th and 6th places, respectively.

Roberts commented after his win, “Since Chevy is still quite new to me, I haven’t been timing my rounds, so I was super surprised to see the results! Even better is that his [Chevy’s] owner, Carol Wiley came down from Canada, making it a special weekend for the whole team!”

The 3* winner concluded, “Tryon has become one of our favourite venues for both show jumping and eventing.”

Other top-10 Canadian FEI division results at this event include Katie Malensek, who rode three of her own in the CCI2*-S and finished 4th (MRF Qwlkstep), 6th (STX Mex) and 9th (Valeska). Madeleine Scott and FE Speakeasy placed 10th in this division. Malensek also placed 3rd in the CCI1*-S riding Civento.
