Jaimey Irwin of Stouffville, ON picked up back-to-back wins in the small tour during week three of the Adequan Global Dressage Festival (AGDF), held Jan. 25-29, 2017 in Wellington, FL.
Partnered with Donegal V (Johnson x Gribaldi), a nine-year-old, Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by the Team Irwin Supporters Group, Irwin’s first win came on Jan. 26 in the Prix St. Georges on a score of 70.746%. The pair followed up with a second place finish the following day in the Intermediate I (69.649%), before ending the week on another win in the Intermediate I Freestyle with 75.475% on Jan. 29.
“It is a great feeling to have a double-win at AGDF,” said Irwin, who imported Donegal V from the Netherlands as a three-year-old and has been training him up through the competition levels ever since. “This was our first competition of the year and Donegal is feeling in top form. He is feeling very solid in the small tour and shows great talent for the grand prix. I am very excited to bring him to the next level.”
Irwin also spoke of his exciting Freestyle win, explaining, “The freestyle was originally created for the 2011 Pan Am Games in Mexico where my wife, Tina Irwin, competed on the silver medal winning team. The music is a compilation that was arranged by Wendy Watson of Zap Productions in Toronto. It is a mixture of the music of Flashdance, Chariots of Fire, Life is Life and Fields of Gold by Sting.”
Also earning impressive results in the small tour was Lindsay Kellock from Toronto, ON. Riding Royal Prinz (Royal Diamond x Dream of Glory), a 16-year-old Oldenburg stallion owned by Teresa Simmons, she took second in the Prix St. Georges with a score of 69.605%, before returning to the stadium the following day, scoring 70.132% for the win in the Intermediate I.
In addition, Canada’s up-and-coming dressage riders made their mark during AGDF week three. Alexandra Meghji of Toronto, ON won the Young Rider Freestyle with a score of 68.708% aboard Rigo (Rotspon x Weltmeyer) a 16-year-old Hanoverian gelding owned by Diana Belevsky. Together they also earned second in the Young Rider Individual test (66.579%) and third in the Team test (64.579%).
In the Junior Rider division, Ava MacCoubrey of Cobourg, ON and Pablo (Cordial Medoc x Voltaire), a 20-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Lori Bell, earned the winning score of 68.526% in the Individual test. They also picked up second place in the Freestyle (70.917%) and third place in the Team test with 66.432%.
Canada was also represented on the judging panel by Lee Tubman, an Eston, SK native currently living in Wellington, FL. Tubman was recently promoted to the status of FEI 4* Dressage Judge.
