Equestrian Canada (EC) is pleased to announce the members of the 2019 Dressage Committee.
The following individuals have been appointed following the close of applications in November 2018:
- Victoria Winter (Chair) – Toronto, ON
- Mary Brooks – Cedar Valley, ON
- Kimberly Cox – Calgary, AB
- Susan Fraser – Port Williams, NS
- Joan Macartney – Manotick, ON
- Shelia Skene – Victoria, BC
- Alison Martin – North Vancouver, BC
- William (Lee) Tubman – Wellington, FL
- Birgit Valkenborg – Sainte-Marthe, QC
The members of the 2019 EC Dressage Committee were appointed based on their discipline-specific expertise and competencies, as well as overall strengths in areas such as collaboration and strategic thinking. The current committee contains a balance in terms of both regional representation and experience. Members hail from across Canada and bring perspectives from the standpoint of high performance athletes, certified coaches, EC and FEI officials, competition organizers, owners and sponsors, as well as the grassroots.
New to the committee in 2019 is Alison Martin of North Vancouver, BC. Martin is an EC Certified Coach and as an athlete has competed up to the grand prix level. She has served on the Board of Directors for both Southlands Riding Club and Dressage BC. In addition, Martin was Chef d’Équipe for the Canadian Dressage Team that brought home the silver medal at the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games.
“I am excited to join the Dressage Committee of Equestrian Canada and look forward to providing a West Coast voice,” said Martin. “With the expertise the Committee has sitting around the table, I’m energized by what we could achieve moving forward to develop the sport in Canada.”
Winter and Macartney were welcomed back for a second term in 2019. Winter is a double Pan American Games medallist, past Chair of the Canadian Olympic Committee’s Athletes’ Council and was a member of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Organizing Committee Board of Directors. Macartney is a retired FEI 4* Dressage Judge and current EC Senior Dressage Judge with years of experience on many different EC Committees.
The Dressage Committee also extends sincere gratitude to outgoing committee member, Elizabeth Steacie of Brockville, ON. Steacie has been an active EC volunteer for decades, and is a pillar of the dressage world in Ontario through various roles.
“I want to thank the new and returning Committee members for accepting these positions and for their continued support and commitment to the sport of dressage in Canada,” said Winter. “I would also like to recognize outgoing member Liz Steacie for her invaluable contributions over the many years that she has been involved with the Committee.”
EC would like to thank everyone who submitted applications for consideration for the Dressage Committee and encourages individuals to apply for open positions in the fall of 2019 for the 2020 Committee.
