Not a fun day for O’Hanlon Eventing North. The snow came back with a vengeance and I have been snowed in at the farm for some hours now. I worry about the roads for the ladies who work for me. I know there were stuck cars everywhere today. The horses didn’t mind, they went out quite cheerfully. We are very much hoping that the forecast freezing rain does not materialize leaving everything ready for a fabulous hacking day tomorrow.
Rummy and Benny are quickly becoming barn favourites in their new digs. They are both so easy and obliging. Benny is holding his weight while he finishes growing, but Rummy got a bit tucked up again from the long haul south. I have put him back on RegenerEQ. He had finished the course we gave him for the trip but I am going to keep him on a half dose daily for the foreseeable future. It is a remarkable appetite stimulant (not that he seems to have any trouble in that direction) and it also seems to settle the digestion into a good working flow. I know the racehorse trainers feed a half dose daily to their high stress charges. I am going to give it a go and see if it helps him get ‘over the hump’ and start to bulk up. It’s not a great photo of Selena riding him but you can see what I mean about needing to bulk up. We brought his Purina feed with him from Canada so I don’t have to worry about his grain.
Tomorrow is a schooling day at the Florida Horse Park. Various and assorted beasties are going to do various and assorted things. Anne Marie is going to ride Riley and I think they are doing cross country and stadium, Selena is doing cross country on King Brian, dressage on Woody Woodman, and I think she is schooling Zephyr cross country…not absolutely sure on that one but we shall find out tomorrow no doubt. I hope they have time for photos.
