Veteran British team member Michael Whitaker has been suspended after his stallion, Tackeray, failed a drug test.
Whitaker has been prvisionally banned when the A sample taken during a competition in La Baule, France last month tested positive for Alternogest. A hormone, Alternogest is found in Regumate and is used to supress estrus in mares. Whitaker has reportedly said that there was an error made in feed that was meant for his mare, Portofino.
Whitaker challenged his provisionary suspension at a preliminary hearing with the FEI but was denied and was forced to withdrew from the the Global Champions Tour in Monte Carlo. He has requested a testing of the B sample and a hearing before the FEI’s tribunal.
