A member of the North and Central American and Caribbean division of the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ series, Thunderbird Show Park has announced the cancellation of the 2021 CSIO5* Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ of Canada, originally scheduled to run during the venue’s Odlum Brown BC Open tournament on 6 June 2021.

The cancellation comes as a result of a Provincial Health Authority announcement made 19 April, extending British Columbia’s current health order in response to the ongoing global pandemic.

“With the announcement from the Provincial Health Authority extending and adding to the current restrictions, it is with great regret we are unable to host the Canadian Premier and Odlum Brown BC Open,” said Chris Pack, President of Thunderbird Show Park. “Instead, we’ll pivot and plan for a 3-week tournament series in June and July, adding an extra week before our West Coast Classic and Western Family tournaments, and a three-week tournament series as planned in August.”

With five decades of history hosting high performance sport, Thunderbird Show Park, located in Langley, BC, hosted its first Nations Cup event in 2016 and its first CSIO5* in 2018. By the end of that year, the venue was awarded the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ for a three-year term. The most historic team event in show jumping, the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ of Canada has provided some memorable moments in Langley, among them a hometown victory for Team Canada in 2019. That team consisted of Lisa Carlsen, Mario Deslauriers, Nicole Walker and Tiffany Foster, who grew up showing at tbird.

“We’d like to thank Longines as well as the BC Open’s title sponsor Odlum Brown for their continued support of our venue,” Pack said. “The BC Open and the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup of Canada have become highlight events on our calendar at tbird, and we all greatly look forward to their return in 2022.”

Thunderbird Show Park has not hosted competition since the venue’s CSI2* Harvest Welcome in October 2020, which was the only FEI competition in Canada last year. The venue plans to add events to its calendar later this summer, pending further easing of restrictions.

“We know this is the right choice for our community, and we appreciate everyone’s continued support,” Pack said. “We will release more details about entering the new third week in July in the near future.”
