FEI CCI-S 4*/3*/2*

After a rainy night, the footing for FEI cross-country drained nicely and held up well throughout the morning. Elisabeth Halliday-Sharp held on to her overnight lead and added 4.8 time faults to her double clear show jumping round. Not one rider was able to make it through the finish flags within the time allowed, but the top 28 had no jumping penalties.

CCI3*-S overnight leader Alexander O’Neal withdrew before the start of cross country, moving the winning pair Boyd Martin and Fernhill Prezley into the top position. Even with 1.2 time faults, they won the division and Boyd Martin also finished in 4th with Penhill Celtic. Kurt Martin and Elisa Wallace were the only two to make the tight time.

In the CCI2*-S, the top 8 horse and rider combinations all finished within the time allowed on Captain Mark Phillips cross-country course. Elisabeth Halliday-Sharp led the field from start to finish with Maryville Sir Henry.

USEF/USEA Horse Trials

The national levels took the spotlight for the final day of competition at Oktoberfest. The beginner novice, novice, and training divisions completed their show jumping over Chris Barnard’s course in the Outdoor Arena, and competition concluded with preliminary, intermediate, beginner novice, and training cross country.

Each level received $1,000 in reallocated prize money from the cancelled CCI1*-S. Thus, 29 national riders received a portion of the prize money. Dr. Cynthia Browne sponsored bonus awards for the Thoroughbred closest to optimum time in the novice and beginner novice divisions. Amy Cobb and Swift Journey won the $250 cash bonus for the novice, and Madison King and Happy Hour won for the beginner novice level.

Myron Langer, one of Stable View’s loyal volunteers, donated the Amanda Bader Memorial award to the lowest dressage score of the whole event. This award was given in memory of Bader who passed in 2007 as a result of a cross country injury. Jenny Caras won this $300 award aboard Trendy Fernhill with a 21.40 dressage score.
