Columbia’s Roberto Teran scored an exciting victory in the Great American $1 Million Grand Prix at HITS Ocala on March 27th.
Riding Woklahoma, Teran bested an impressive field, going clear and fast – more than two seconds faster than the second placed finisher, Cian O’Connor on Good Luck. O’Connor’s trainer, Lillie Keenan, was third with Super Sox.
While Lauren Hough and Ohala actually put in the fastest jump-off round, a rail down left them in fourth place. Other top riders included Andre Thieme, Conthendrix McLain Ward on Rothchild and Todd Minikus on Quality Girl.
Teran, who is based out of Wellington, Florida, has contested three other HITS Million classes, but this marks his first win. He is aiming for a spot on Columbia’s show jumping squad headed to Rio, and plans to enter Woklahoma in some Nations Cup classes in Europe ahead of the selection trials in May. Teran has represented his country at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto and the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in France.
