Another exciting week of show jumping action at Caledon Equestrian Park is in the books with Owen Sound, Ontario’s Nora Gray and Dior closing out the Caledon Premier with an impressive win Sunday (July 7) in the $25,000 Grand Prix – presented by Greenhawk.
The pair beat out a starting field of 16 competitors with nine making it to the jump-off. Gray and Dior posted a clear run and time of 42.48 seconds in the second round, besting runners up Sam Pegg and Cayden de Coilly by nearly two full seconds. Hugh Graham and Florino were third.
The first big class of the week saw Hyde Moffatt and Karen Pilon’s Sapheara win the $10,000 Open Welcome on Friday (July 5). Carly Campbell-Cooper and Cascaya L were second in that class with Pegg and Cayden de Coilly rounding out the top three.
Over in the hunter rings, Miranda Travers-Cavill and Taylor Cornwell’s Porter posted an impressive showing in Saturday’s $2,000 Canadian Hunter Derby – presented by Leon’s Furniture, beating out Kristjan Good and Diamo Blue for the red ribbon and top prize. Peter Gisborn and Jalisco placed third.

Debra Weir and Red October claimed their second victory of the season in the $2,000 Longrun TB Hunter Challenge – presented by Nobleton Feed Mill and the HBPA on Sunday. This special series features retired race horses converted into hunter competitors. Garet Selleck and Holdin’ My Own were second with Nicole Amendola and Justacause in third.
“Horses competing in the TB Hunter Classic Series on the East and West coasts will accumulate points throughout the season, and the TB with the highest number of points at the end on the season will receive a $500 bonus provided by Chiefswood Aftercare,” reads a release about the series.
The Caledon Premier saw a great turnout for the first Pommies & Popcorn Movie Night at the Park of the 2019 season. Movie nights, which are open to the public, feature free parking and admission with free popcorn and Pommies Cider discounts. The next showing will be Aug. 8 with Dumbo (2019) playing on the park’s outdoor jumbotron.
