Ottawa, ON-Canadian rider Leslie Reid competed at Golden State Dressage Festival CDI3* held April 3-6, 2008 in Rancho Murieta, California.
On Friday, Reid, a Canadian Olympian from Langley, BC, rode Patricia Hatch’s Orion, a 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding sired by Jazz, to a second place finish with a score of 67.458% in the Grand Prix class. Yesterday, the pair earned a 67.650%, which was good for another second place finish in the Grand Prix Freestyle.
The weekend’s results at Rancho Murieta, which served as an official qualifying competition for the US Olympic Selection Trials, mean that Reid has achieved the necessary qualifying scores in order to be in contention for the 2008 Olympic Games Canadian Dressage Team.
“I was really pleased with our Grand Prix test. Orion is proving to be really consistent,” noted Reid of her equine partner’s first year at Grand Prix in the international ring. “We were second to my former horse, Mark, with whom Leslie rode at the 2004 Olympic Games and is now being ridden by US Olympian Sue Blinks. “Now I have my qualifying scores, which makes me very happy.”
The international judging panel at this FEI competition included Canada’s own Elizabeth McMullen (FEI O-CAN) as president of the ground jury, as well as Gary Rockwell (FEI O-USA), Marian Cunningham (FEI I-PER), Lisette Vega de Purcell (FEI I-DOM) and Annette Fransen Iacobeaus (FEI I-SWE).
