took place during the summer classic horse show held june 11-15 at the caledon equestrian park in palgrave, on. in the seven and eight-year-old division, it was the canadian-bred entry of executive privilege 3e that emerged victorious for owner kingridge stables of king city, on. piloted by canadian equestrian team veteran hugh graham, executive privilege 3e was one of eight entries to successfully negotiate the first round course and advance to the jump-off where he was again clear in the fastest time, 42.10 seconds. a registered canadian sport horse, the eight-year-old executive privilege 3e is by the kingridge stallion, class action, out of galaxy 3e by aerobic z. with a jump-off time of 44.87 seconds, sacramento van’t paradijs was the runner-up under chris sorensen. owned by wee enterprises, sacramento van’t paradijs is registered with the anglo european studbook. his sire is the registered anglo european stallion, surreilist van’t paradys, while his dam, uricke vant fence cost him the win with naphea de coilly, a seven-year-old selle francais owned by mark hayes. bred in normandy, france, naphea de coilly is by the current world champion horse, cumano, out of the selle francais mare diana du bois by page de paulstra. kingridge was in the winner’s circle yet again at the conclusion of the six-year-old division. nine horses advanced to the jump-off with eight posting double clear efforts, making time the deciding factor. as the final jump-off challenger, colombia’s roberto teran was not afraid to turn on the speed, posting the only sub-30 second time. with a winning time of 29.53 seconds, teran secured the win for owner and breeder kingridge stables. grand finale 3e is a canadian sport horse mare by jamestown, out of black diamond by the famous international show jumping stallion, chin chin. with a clear jump-off time of 30.19 seconds, hyde moffatt took second place riding candide van het kastanjehof for owner mark hayes. the pair had won the opening event of the series, but settled for second in both the second and third events. a belgian warmblood gelding, candide van het kastanjehof is by thunder van de zuuthoeve out of revelerie et kastanjehof by quito de baussy. yet another former winner, michelle vandal and vdl viper h who had claimed victory in the fox run spring horse show ii on may 25, placed third this time out after completing the jump-off in 30.57 seconds. bred by hogendoorn and owned by vandal, vdl viper h is a grey canadian sport horse by corland out of fanieta by ahorn. in the five-year-old division, another canadian-bred entry led the pack. this time, the winner was lexx, bred and owned by north ridge, the stable of two-time olympian jay hayes. the canadian warmblood is by lux z out of a pilot dam. having jumped a clear round under johan letimonier, lexx received the day’s highest style score to earn the victory. the quebec-owned entry of dubai van de vogelzang took second position for south shore farms. having competed in the four-year-old national championships in belgium, dubai van de vogelzang is continuing his show jumping career in canada and was shown in palgrave by martien van der hoeven. featuring all belgian breeding, dubai van de vogelzang is by lambada out of a querelle dam. kingridge once again figured in the five-year-old division with its homebred entry of holy smoke 3e. shown by hugh graham, holy smoke 3e is a canadian sport horse by jamestown out of galaxy 3e by aerobic. having placed second the last time out, lino claimed the four-year-old victory in palgrave. owned by ottawa southway inn group and shown by allison zlepnig, lino is an oldenburg by lordanos out of a pablo dam. the pair jumped clear and received a style score of 31 to give them the winning score of 81 points. peter gisborn took second and third place in the final standings with two canadian-bred entries. the second-placed infinity was bred by mill creek stables of cambridge, on, and owned by nadia and allan mcconnell. the canadian warmblood is by the famous sire indoctro out of charley’s angel by the hannoverian stallion rio grande. third place went to cassius clay, bred by grande farms of orangeville, on, and owned by lyda bostock. cassius clay is by catrick ii out of first class by for pleasure. the purpose of the canadian young horse jumper development series is to encourage the development of young show jumping talent and to give canadian breeders additional incentives to breed superior show jumping prospects. competing on a level playing field, the horses are divided according to age and jump at a level suited to their development. this careful development allows the horses to gain valuable experience and advance to the higher levels of show jumping competition with confidence. the canadian young horse jumper development series also gives prospective buyers for the hunter and jumper markets an opportunity to view a large group of prospects in a competition setting. the 2008 canadian young horse jumper development series is truly national in scope with competitions being held from coast to coast. a total of 12 events will be held in quebec, eight in ontario, two in alberta and five in british columbia, including the western canadian finals which will take place at thunderbird show park in langley, bc, from august 20-24. the ontario championships, eastern canadian finals and national young horse finals will feature $75,000 in prize money and will be held at csi-w tournament of champions from september 17-21 in palgrave, ontario.
