Ottawa, ON—Canadian Olympian Evi Strasser enjoyed top scores among some of the world’s best competitors at the FEI World Cup Qualifier held at the prestigious Olympia London International Horse Show December 15–17 in London, Great Britain.
Strasser of Sainte-Adele, QC, rode her longtime partner Quantum Tyme, a 12-year-old Oldenburg gelding (Quattro x Argentinius), to a 12th place finish in the Grand Prix, in a field of 21 competitors representing 13 different countries, with a score of 66.50%.
The pair moved on to the Freestyle, where they performed their routine in front of a sold out crowd in the impressive Olympia arena. They were rewarded with a score of 70.450% for 11th place in a class which saw current World and European Freestyle champion Anky Van Grunsven and Salinero take the top honours with multi-Olympian Kyra Kyrkland finishing second with Max.
“The show was just amazing,†said Strasser, noting that the large number of world-ranked riders competing was impressive. “Quantum was happy to perform, and Olympia felt like we were at home with the crowd right behind us.â€
With this year being the 100th anniversary of the first international horse show ever to be held in the historic Grand Hall Olympia, the audience even drew members from the Royal family who came out to watch the performances. “It was quite a thrill to perform in front of members of the Royal family,†said Strasser. “It was amazing to be a part of such a prestigious competition.
The international judging panel included Stephen Clarke (FEI O—GBR), Dr. Volker MORITZ (FEI O—GER), Dr. Jean-Michel Roudier (FEI O—FRA), Minako Furuoka (FEI O—JPN) and Andrew GARDNER (FEI I—GBR) for both the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Freestyle.
