Frenchman Simon Delestre won the major event of the CSI5* Hubside Spring Tour Grimaud – Golfe de Saint-Tropez on Thursday with his tireless Chesall Zimequest. He edged the Belgian Niels Bruynseels on Libelle vd Heffinck and Nicolas Delmotte (FRA) riding Urvoso du Roch, who were third. Fourth place went to the ‘guest star’ of the Riviera this weekend, Canadian Eric Lamaze aboard Chacco Kid.

“Talk about horse power!” Lamaze commented in a Facebook post. “At our first show back on European soil, Chacco Kid continued to impress with a fast and fault-free round … Looking forward to a great weekend!”

“Already in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, ten days ago, Chesall was jumping magnificently,” said Delestre. “He finished second in the first test and was penalized by four points in the other grand prix, while evolving in a superb way. Today, I found that he was perfectly relaxed, he did great ! He’s in a great state of mind and it’s nice to see him like that.”

Scott Brash (GBR) won the penultimate class, the CSI5* 1.45m, aboard Hello Mr President. He spoke of the enforced time off in the past year. “It was very sad and the horses got bored at home. With the Olympics in the back of my mind, we will now have to work on a program for Tokyo. My horses’ agenda is booked: I will prepare several for these Games since several [are eligible for] selection. Hubside Jumping will be part of this preparation program: the big sand ring and the heat of the south of France [can be similar to] what awaits us in Japan. It will be important for me to see how each of my horses behave here.”
