Ottawa, ON – Equine Canada Sport Council is pleased to announce that Drive Canada is the newest of its discipline committees.

Drive Canada, formerly a National Association, now joins Sport Council as a discipline committee similar to Jump Canada, Dressage Canada, Endurance Canada, Canadian Eventing Committee, Canadian Reining Committee, Vault Canada and Para-Equestrian Canada.

Details of the governance structure documented in the Terms of Reference can be viewed on the Drive Canada website http://www.drivecanada.org/. An interim transition plan, approved by Sport Council on June 13, 2010, is now in effect until completion of the election process over the next two years. “I am excited that we have finally become a Committee in Equine Canada. With this move, we are hoping to take full advantage of the benefits Equine Canada can offer our committee and sport,” Bill MacGillivray, President of Drive Canada.

The 2010 election for representatives will take place in each of the six regions this summer. Any Equine Canada member in good standing, who is an Equine Canada Driving affiliate member by July 31, 2010 is eligible to be nominated and entitled to vote in the upcoming election. Payment can be made online at http://www.equinecanada.ca/ using the “Join/renew” selection.

Each region shall have one representative for every 50 Equine Canada Driving affiliate members. Everyone who is interested is encouraged to participate in the election.
