Canadian Cassidy Rein had a big weekend at the Global Future Champions at Tops International in the Netherlands. In the CSIYR Grand Prix presented by Longines, the 1.50m course was designed by a team led by Olympic course designer Grégory Bodo of France. In the end, a jump-off was not necessary: Rein was the only competitor to go clear in the first round, rounding out her incredible weekend.
The 20-year-old rider rode her 12-year-old KWPN gelding Habab W (Nabab de Reve x Padinus) in this class, taking home a Longines watch presented by Erik Schenk of Longines Netherlands. It was a great result considering she has only been riding this horse for less than three months. “He was amazing! This was my first 1.50m with him. He is a new ride for me and I couldn’t be happier with him. We’re excited for the future,” said a beaming Rein. The pair had begun their week with a third place in the 1.45m class on Friday before winning the 1.45 class on Saturday; Rein also won Saturday’s 1.35m Young Rider class aboard Diablotine Jump, her 11-year-old SF mare.
Another Canadian, 18-year-old Fares Azouni riding Edgar, won Sunday’s 1.35m YR class and was 7th in the YR Grand Prix with I’m Special.
