Jump Canada is pleased to announce the riders chosen to represent Canada in the International Divisions during the G&C Farm CSIO 4* FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL, February 27 – March 3, 2013.
Senior Team
The Canadian Team that will compete in the $75,000 Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™, presented by G&C Farm, will be comprised of four of the following six riders and horses:
Jonathan Asselin of Calgary, AB on Attache Stables’ Show Girl, a 13-year-old Selle Francais mare;
Erynn Ballard of Tottenham, ON, on South Shore Farm’s Quintello, an 11-year-old Oldenburg gelding; Wennous, a 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare owned by Looking Good; and South Shore Farm’s Catwalk 19, a 10-year-old Holsteiner stallion;
Mac Cone of King City, ON, on Chadburn Holdings’ Amor van de Rostal, a 13-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding;
Tiffany Foster of Schomberg, ON, on Victor, an 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding and Whitney, a 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare, both owned by Torrey Pines Stable and Artisan Farms; and Artisan Farm’s Cyber van Vryhern, an 11-year-old Belgian Warmblood stallion;
Eric Lamaze of Schomberg, ON, on Wang Chung M2S, a 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion owned by Morningside Stud and Torrey Pines Stable, and Eurocommerce Nevada, a nine-year-old Zangersheide gelding owned by Gevi International B.V.; and
Ian Millar of Perth, ON, on Dixson, Sue and Ariel Grange’s 10-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding, and Star Power, a 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Team Works.
The two riders not selected for the Nations Cup Team will compete as individuals. Mark Laskin will serve as the chef d’équipe of the senior team.
Canada has won the $75,000 FEI Nations Cup™ in Wellington, FL, a total of five times, claiming victory in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010. This year, seven countries are expected to compete including teams from Colombia, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, Venezuela and the United States.
The two-round $75,000 Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™, presented by G&C Farm, will take place Friday evening, March 1, with international course designer Anthony D’Ambrosio of the United States setting the track.
Spectators can cheer on the Canadian Team at the Events Tent at 6 p.m. on March 1, 2013. Tickets for this exciting evening of watching and supporting the Canadian Show Jumping Team from premium seats cost $35 each and may be purchased from the Running Fox Tack Shop on Concession Row on the show grounds.
Young Rider Team
Canada will be represented by the following four combinations in the $10,000 FEI Young Riders Nations Cup, presented by Hollow Creek Farm, on March 2 in the International Arena:
Bretton Chad of Calgary, AB, on Stone Ridge Farms LLC’s Santa Caterina LS La Silla, a 12-year-old mare;
Kara Chad of Calgary, AB, on Stone Ridge Farms LLC’s Alberto II, a 10-year-old Holsteiner gelding;
Amelia Vernon of Calgary, AB, on Jaime Auletto’s Udolente, a 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare; and
Nicole Walker of Aurora, ON, will ride her own High Yummy, an 11-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding, and Blue Loyd 12, a 13-year-old Oldenburg gelding.
Beth Underhill will serve as the chef d’équipe of the young rider team.
Junior Team
Canada will be represented by the following four combinations in the $2,500 FEI Junior Riders Nations Cup, presented by Hollow Creek Farm, on March 2 in the International Arena:
Kaitlyn Blum of Gormley, ON, on her own Carnell, an 11-year-old Holsteiner gelding;
Mikala Chesler of Orangeville, ON, on Sher-Al Farms’ Masquerade, a nine-year-old Zangersheide gelding;
Stevie Murphy of Charlottetown, PEI, on Martie Murphy’s Neathy de Riverland, a 12-year-old Selle Francais gelding; and
Nora Gray of Owen Sound, ON, will ride Aragon, a nine-year-old Oldenburg stallion owned by Taboo International Inc.
Alan Chesler will serve as the chef d’équipe of the junior team.
A Nations Cup is the only competition in show jumping where riders, competing in teams of four, compete against other countries for top honours. The top three scores from each team are counted towards the final result of the two-round competition.
