Ottawa, Ontario—The Canadian Reining Committee (CRC) and the High Performance sub-Committee of Equine Canada is pleased to announce that the selection criteria for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG) is now posted on the Equine Canada website at http://www.equinecanada.ca/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=525&Itemid=455.

The qualification period for the event is January 1, 2009 to July 5, 2010, during which time athletes must achieve a score of 68 or greater at three different CRI competitions (one of which must be a Canadian CRI), to be eligible to compete at a selection final event. Horse/rider combinations will be ranked based on their results achieved at the CRC WEG Selection Final, and a team of four horse/rider combinations will be selected in order of ranking by August 30 2010 to compete at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

The selection final will be held after the initial qualification period has ended, with the date and location to be confirmed by April 2010.

“Canada was victorious at the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games, securing a silver medal in the team competition as well as an individual gold medal,” said Bob Thompson, Chair of the Canadian Reining Committee. “We have established a selection process that will ensure that Canada is once again represented by its top horses and riders at the 2010 World Equestrian Games.”

All riders wishing to be considered for selection to the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games must declare their interest to Equine Canada by March 1, 2010, in accordance with the selection criteria, which is posted on the Equine Canada website at http://www.equinecanada.ca/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=525&Itemid=455.

The 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games is comprised of the world championships for eight equestrian sports, and will be held from September 25 to October 10, 2010 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky, USA.
