Equestrian Canada (EC) is pleased to announce that nominations are officially open for the 2017 EC Board of Directors.
EC is looking for dedicated individuals with the dynamic and relevant skills to take on a leadership role in the organization. Directors will have the opportunity to help EC effectively deliver on its mandate to represent, promote and advance equestrian sport and all related equine and equestrian interests in Canada.
With several major organizational improvements underway, Directors will also have the chance to contribute to the culture of positive change at EC and work collaboratively toward the continued growth and development of the organization, while strengthening partnerships within Canada and abroad.
Prospective candidates interested in serving on the EC Board of Directors are encouraged to download the following package for full application eligibility information, instructions and timelines. The deadline for nominations is June 1, 2017 at 4pm ET.
2017 Equestrian Canada Board of Director Election: Key Information
Vacancies
In 2017, there will be up to eight (8) Director positions to be filled.
As per Bylaw 4.2, b) Transition:
- Four (4) positions for a three-year term ending in 2020
- One (1) position for a one-year term ending in 2018
In addition, as a result of recent resignations, the Board has elected to fill the vacancies for the balance of the terms as follows:
- Two (2) positions for a two-year term ending in 2019
- One (1) position for a one-year term ending in 2018
Term Limits: Per Bylaw Article 4.10
Directors shall be eligible for re-election, but no Director may serve for more than six (6) consecutive years. After serving six (6) consecutive years as a Director, an individual may be elected or appointed to serve another term after an absence of at least nine (9) months from the date he or she last served as a Director.

Important Dates
The timeline for the 2017 Director Applications is as follows:
- June 1, 2017 – Call for Nominations will close at 4 p.m. ET
- July 15, 2017 – Nominating Committee will complete a review of applications, make nominations for the ballot, and publish a list of candidates
- August 3, 2017 – Members cast their ballots
- August 24, 2017 – Election results announced
- Date TBC – Introduction of Board members during 2017 EC Annual Meeting
About the EC Nominating Committee
The EC Nominating Committee is responsible for:
- Presenting a slate of candidates for the position of EC Board Directors in accordance with EC’s Bylaws
- Ensuring there is an election each year
- Ensuring EC has a rigorous nomination system
- Recruiting qualified individuals to stand for election as Directors
