Ottawa, ON—Equine Canada is pleased to announce a Federation Equestre International (FEI) Jumper Stewards Clinic. The clinic is open to all FEI jumper stewards and senior national stewards with permission from their national federation and Equine Canada Senior (S) and Senior National (SN) stewards. The clinic will take place at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, AB, September 14th, 2009.

The FEI Steward General for Jumping, David Distler of Norwalk, CT, will be the course director for the clinic. Distler is an FEI O jumper judge and the FEI Steward General for the United States. He was the president of the Ground Jury for the 2003 and 2005 Worlds Cup Finals, and he was appointed to the Ground Jury for the 2008 Olympic Games. Distler co-chairs the United States Equestrian Federation Jumper Committee, and is the chair of the FEI Competitions Committee. As a competition organizer, Distler has managed FEI level horse shows; United States Equestrian Team selection trials for Olympic, Pan American and World Equestrian Games; and the North American Junior and Young Riders Championships show jumping when the event was hosted in Wadsworth, IL.

“This will be the first FEI Jumper Stewards clinic to be held in Canada for many years, and it will be conducted by David Distler, the FEI Steward General for Jumping,” said Jan Stephens, the chair of the Equine Canada Stewards Committee. “It is a tremendous educational opportunity that we hope Canadian Senior and FEI stewards will take advantage of.  We also look forward to welcoming Senior and FEI stewards representing the international stewarding community”.
