The Uplands Farm Eastern Canadian Free Jumping Championship will be held on Sunday April 5, 2009 at the Royal Canadian Riding Academy. The competition is jointly organized by the Hanoverian Breeders Club of Eastern Canada and the Canadian Warmblood Horse Breeders Association. The sponsor of the competition is Uplands Farm which is owned by Jennifer Rogers and the competition is in memory of her grand prix Hanoverian show jumper Diva.
The competition is open to three and four year olds who are in a registry recognized by the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses. The competition will be limited to the first 35 horses to be entered. The three year old class will begin about 9:30-10:00am depending on the number of entries. There will be a break for lunch which will be available at a reasonable cost at a lunch bar on the premises where the competition will be held. The Royal Canadian Riding Academy is on Davis Drive about five minutes east of Newmarket, Ontario, a map can be found at: www.rcra.ca.
The four year old class will begin at 1:00pm and the competition should be finished with our Champion and Reserve Champion announced by about 3:30-4pm.
This competition has attracted large audiences each year and many of the horses entered are for sale and the competition is becoming known as a great place to scout for the most talented 3 and 4 year old jumpers. Many of the past entries have gone on to do very well in the OHJA Jumper Development series for 4, 5 and 6 year olds. So serious breeders of jumpers should consider entering their 3 and 4 year olds as it is great experience for a young horse, the breeder gains independent information about the horse’s jumping talent and whether the horse is for sale or not it is great exposure.
The class prize money is 1st place $100, 2nd place $75 and 3rd place $50. The Hanoverian Breeders Club of Eastern Canada also offers $100 for the top placing Hanoverian.
