JustWorld International gifted a one-of-a-kind horse sculpture to the FEI this week to commemorate the organizations’ partnership. JustWorld Founder and president Jessica Newman, along with a group of JustWorld Board Members and donors, joined FEI president Ingmar De Vos and FEI Board members in Lausanne, Switzerland, to unveil the life-sized sculpture that will stand as a permanent installation at the FEI headquarters and a reminder of the organizations’ shared values; complementing the horse sport with world-changing humanitarian work.
The sculpture, painted by Jerome Mesnager and entitled, “Vole au Vent” (Fly in the Wind), was one of four sculptures sold to bidders in an online auction organized by the City of La Baule in France in June 2021. The piece of art was acquired by the “JustWorld Friendship Circle,” a syndicate of 32 donors from 14 countries, including seven from Canada (Pedro Cebulka, Lauren Hayes, Gerald Kuh, Samantha Lam, Michael Lawrence, Phillip Rozon and Mark Samuel). Jessica Newman explained, “This unique piece of art and the goodwill and generosity which made its purchase and donation possible perfectly honor the special relationship that has developed between the FEI and JustWorld.”
A significant portion of proceeds from the auction were donated to support the JustWorld education and nutrition programs for children from under-resourced communities around the globe. “I want to thank the City of La Baule and the La Baule – CSIO5 de France horse show for coming up with this wonderful and unique fundraiser for JustWorld,” said Jessica Newman.
