Do you find small furry animals get dropped off around your barn? At our last barn we once found a kitten out in the middle of the fields miles from anyone or any buildings. It most certainly didn’t seem feral as it was very keen to come home with us on the back of a horse. Totally unfazed by the experience. Another came and just simply moved in. The latest was dropped off in a ditch at the end of our driveway and, of course, that secured her position as the official Balsam Hall barn cat. She is pretty useless and is almost never seen chasing rodents, although she does have a penchant for baby birds. 🙁 In all other ways, however, she is a great barn cat – friendly and totally resilient to the pack of Jack Russells that would love to chase her if she would only play the game and run away. She also likes to ‘pose.’ Her latest pose is in the Easter Basket from last weekend (photo by Kelsy Flewitt).
Today was Sammy’s day at the show and he was awesome. For some reason Selena thought he was not square on his last halt (he was) and pressed him up with one leg only to make him move sideways off the centre line. He still managed to be third after dressage and he held that position after stadium. He does his cross country tomorrow, fingers crossed, it’s only his second event, he is doing a really wonderful job. If anyone out there would be interested in joining a syndicate to support this talented boy, we would love to hear from you.
Marta Agrodnia flew down from Maine to rider her own black beauty, Thunderstruck. Selena rode Thunderstruck up to the Prelim level for his previous owner and we are thrilled to watch his new owner achieving a wonderful partnership with him. A good dressage and one flimsy rail in the show jumping puts her in tenth place going into cross country tomorrow. Woohoo!
