After lots of traveling we arrived safely in Ocala Florida at Clayton’s beautiful farm. Huge thanks to my teammate Colleen for shipping Woody down. He enjoyed traveling with his buddy Quorry. Thanks to Anne Marie for looking after him along the way and my Mum for taking him to Quebec where he began his journey. Also thank you to Brian Leith for doing most of the driving down to florida so I could nap and feel well rested for training camp.
Now that we are here it’s all go! Unpacking boxes of loot from our wonderful team sponsors, it’s Christmas in July. Trying on our team gear to make sure it all fits and then figuring out how to get it all in the Canadian team trunks. There are three lovely barn cats here and I’m pretty sure one of them is going to end up in Brazil because they keep popping out of trunks, trucks, trailers, suitcases you name it they’re in it! According to Lisa, they’ve apparently been to a few events accidentally already..
We had fun on a team hack around the nearby farms Sunday morning after our daily team jog. Woody could smell cows at one point and his periscope went up, he halted with a snort or two. Luckily he had lots of friends with him so he kept going with out much fuss when they all walked past him. It’s called “adulting” Woody well done. We all have to grow up some time. Woody has been known to be a little juvenile around cows.
In the late afternoon we did a light flat school with some pole work and Clayton’s watchful eye. Dr Jill Copenhagen ( our team vet) also watched the horses work to make sure everyone is in tip top shape. Then some more team bonding while we set up the dressage ring, always a challenge! We had a really great BBQ at Clayton’s house with good music and food. Chef Clayton even made us some really good veggie burgers (for Anne Marie & I). Friends, food and fun what more could a girl ask for? (other than Gold…..)
