Well this weekend was very full of Badminton Horse Trials. We were excited to watch the North American contingent. The Apprentice just didn’t seem to have his head in the game from the start of cross country. Buck did everything he could to energize him but it wasn’t happening. Poor Boyd took a cropper at the Vicarage V and Libby Head and Sir Rockstar were wonderful. It was first class to see Canadian Kathyrine Robinson with a clear cross country and show jumping. Meanwhile Michael Jung shows us all how it’s done and takes the Rolex Grand Slam in style.
We heard that Boyd is leaving Crackerjack with Jock Paget until Luhmuhlen and then he will run him there. It’s the weekend of the 16th of June. I hope things go more smoothly for them, Crackerjack is my favourite Boyd Martin horse.
Foxwood High is enjoying being home. He has only hacked and Selena has worked on his dressage. Bromont is less than a month away, how did that happen? When you lay it out in ‘weeks’ it’s really only three weeks until they set out in the truck and trailer. He will be back galloping this week no doubt.
I rode Benny again. I almost gave up after about ten minutes, he is very easy to ride but still very unbroken. You will be tootling along and suddenly he will turn his head to look at something and practically fall on his nose. I was riding him around in the sand ring and every time another horse came by us he would launch himself happily in their direction, not very keen on working in his own space. Rummy and Selena looked very professional in comparison which is a good thing since Rummy is the one who has to go to the Retired Racehorse Project at the end of October and show what a good eventer he is going to be.
