Three Canadians are flying the maple leaf at the CSI3* Aachen International Jumping tournament currently taking place Sept. 4-6 in Aachen, Germany. While the covid-19 pandemic slammed the brakes on the CSIO Aachen traditionally held at the end of June, organizers created a new event later in the show season which has attracted top jumping competitors from around the world.

The Canuck contingent includes Eric Lamaze and fellow Torrey Pines rider Chris Pratt; between them they have brought an entourage of talent including Chacco Kid, Coco Bongo, Dieu Merci Van T & L, Delicalato v/h Marienshof and Newberry Balia Nl. Nikolaus Leckebusch-Peters, 21, a Toronto native, is riding C’Est La Vie and Curly Sue 187.

In today’s results, Lamaze and Chacco Kid placed 2nd in the CSI3* 1.45m class in the Deutsche Bank Stadium and was 16th in the Sparkassen-Youngsters-Cup with the mare Tiesto Du Parsis Z; Pratt was 20th in the same class aboard Newberry Balia Nl. Leckebusch-Peters was 22nd and 24th in the well-filled NetAachen-Prize CSIY 1.40m with C’Est La Vie and Curly Sue 187, respectively.

Lamaze, who has been outspoken about lax safety protocols at other European shows, commented prior to this event, “It will be so refreshing to go to a show with professional management that is looking out for the health and safety of its competitors. I thank Frank Kemperman for all of his efforts. We’re looking forward to a great week of sport in Aachen.”
