Tanner Korotkin and Deauville S Sweep $37,000 Power & Speed Stake CSI 3*

Tanner Korotkin (USA) and Deauville S came out on top after the $37,000 Power & Speed Stake CSI 3* saw 42 entries challenge the Olaf Petersen, Jr. (GER) course, stopping the speed phase timers in 32.674 seconds. The class, held during Tryon Fall 5 competition at Tryon International Equestrian Center & Resort (TIEC), was Korotkin’s first win at the FEI level. Karl Cook (USA) and Kalinka Van’t Zorgvliet, Signe Ostby’s 2010 Belgian Warmblood mare (Thunder van de Zuuthoeve x Flipper d’Elle), cleared the speed phase in a time of 33.963 seconds to receive second place. Third place went to Rowan Willis (AUS) and Billy Guilder, the 2009 Anglo-European Sport Horse gelding (Billy Congo x Cavalier) owned in partnership with The Billy Stud, after their clear, 34.562-second performance in the speed phase. Canada’s Ali Ramsay placed 4th with Bonita VH Keizershof Z and 6th riding Lutz, both owned by Ramsay Equestrian Inc., in the class.

Korotkin and the 2006 Holsteiner gelding (Diamant de Semilly x Lux Z) owned by Castlewood Farm, Inc., a former ride of Laura Kraut, have been together for a year and a half, he shared, adding that the horse has taken him into CSI 3* classes with ease. “He’s done everything, basically. He’s a little bit older now. He’s won a bunch of the U25 classes, taken me to a bunch of these CSI 3* ranking classes, and he’s just an absolutely exceptional horse. He gives it his all, and he’s probably one of the fastest horses out there right now. He’s completely unbelievable!”

The duo were one of 11 pairs to post double-clear rounds, and Korotkin’s winning speed phase came from Deauville S’ athletic ability and unique style of going, he explained.
