Canadian Eventer Sophie Kalpin of King City, ON brought home the win in the CC1*-B Division, at the Hagyard Mid South Three Day Event held at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington KY, USA.

Standing in seventh place after dressage on a score of 53.7 penalties, Kalpin and Rolex, her 14-year-old Thoroughbred gelding by Polish Pro, added no cross country jump or time penalties which moved them into fifth place heading into Saturday’s show jumping round where the duo’s second double clear performance sealed the deal, by finishing the competition on their dressage score and giving them the win.

“My goal heading to Hagyard was definitely to win it! I have been working with Rolex for a fairly short time. We have become a really good team. My goals were to compete successfully at the prelim level and then hopefully get a couple intermediates done and at the end of the season top it off with CCI* in Kentucky. I have exceeded my expectations with Rolex and he has proved to be a truly amazing horse, “commented Kalpin. “Overall I felt the weekend went very well we’ve both been working hard on our dressage phase and it paid off this weekend. After the dressage, cross country is always best phase! Rolex is very bold; he ate up the course and finished strong. He absolutely loves cross country! In the show jumping Rolex and I have been working on even pace and riding an accurate course. I thought the stadium went very smoothly and Rolex was jumping extremely well especially after a longer more open cross country course the day before. Rolex finished the event very strong and happy. He’s been working hard all summer so he’s headed into some well-deserved time off.
