Royal West, home of the prestigious $132,000 Longines FEI World Cup ™ Jumping Calgary presented by pandaHAUS Equestrian, is proud to announce a special ceremony on Thursday Oct. 27, 2016. Children’s Wish child, Emily, will be joining with the world’s greatest equestrians to show off her riding skills aboard her horse, Missy. Rocky Mountain Show Jumping will then be donating to the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada to fulfill the most heartfelt Wish of children living with a life-threatening illness.
Emily was diagnosed with Dysenbryoblastic Neuroepithelial Tumor in her brain when she was seven years old. An accomplished barrel-racer, it was Emily’s Wish to have a barrel-racing horse to call her own. In May of 2016, her Wish came true in the form of Copy This Miss, known affectionately as Missy.
Royal West president John Anderson says it’s exciting to work once again with Children’s Wish. “We have always had a great relationship with Children’s Wish and the excellent work they do. I know our riders and fans are all looking forward to seeing Emily perform on the floor of the Agrium Western Event Centre at Stampede Park. We’ll also be making a significant announcement regarding sponsoring Children’s Wish that day.
“The financial support we receive from community organizations is crucial to our mission of granting Wishes to children living with a life-threatening illness,” said Kyla Martin, Director of the Alberta and Northwest Territories chapter of Children’s Wish, “We are so excited to partner with the Royal West Jumping Tournament, allowing the many attendees the chance to see Emily’s Wish in action but also a demonstration in the power of philanthropy!”
In addition to Emily riding, Children’s Wish families will also be in the stands of the Agrium Event Centre. They’ll have the opportunity to walk the championship jumping course before the event and see the great athletes in action in the $35,000 ACTC 1.45m World Cup Pre-Qualifier.
Royal West features an international field of World Cup and Olympic calibre riders will highlight nine days of heart-stopping action from Oct. 20-30. Again this year Royal West features a list of the world’s top riders, culminating in the $132,000 Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Calgary prize on Saturday Oct. 29.
Royal West is also pleased to present the 3rd annual ‘Royal West Gala for a Cure’, a Masquerade Party in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. For 2016, we are excited to be partnering with three great businesses; Unwrapped Life, The List – Blooms, Paper, Planning, and our fabulous host venue – Hotel Arts.
