Rebecca Howard and Riddle Master had a brilliant clear round for the Canadian eventers in the team show jumping – good enough for 10th place with a total of 61.8 pp and a spot in the hallowed Individual Final. “I’m very thrilled with that,” she said afterwards. “I’ve been plagued with one pole in the last few four-stars and I know we can jump clear rounds. We managed to jump our last two clear, so I’m glad we continued that trend when it really mattered!” She did have a hard rub, but luckily the rail stayed in the cups. “I was lucky once coming into the brown doubles, but it worked out. We’ll take it!”
She continued, “He came through yesterday well; we should have gone faster! He felt good in there. Often, when I’ve had poles in the past it’s just him losing his shape by being a bit not as rideable, a bit rude, or stiff in his body. Through the season he just felt like he was getting a bit softer and more rideable.”
Looking forward to the Final, she said, “He’s a fun horse to be sitting on for two show jump rounds.” When asked how she will approach the warm-up when the horse has already performed so well over so many days, she explained, “I’ll just make sure he’s loose and supple. He won’t jump a ton.”
