The federal police in Brazil raided the offices of the consortium that is building one of the main sports centres for the Rio Olympic Games, on June 7th.
Authorities carried out a search-and-seizure warrant at the headquarters of the Deodoro Sports Complex’s northern section, which will host 11 Olympic sports including the equestrian events.
It is reported that following an investigation, the Comptroller General’s Office found evidence of over-billing, falsification of receipts, and discrepancies related to transportation of goods.
The consortium claims the elevated costs were justified, and the builders say this set back will not delay the completion of the venue.
The FEI has had confirmation from the Rio 2016 Organising Committee that the raid was specific to the consortium building the north section of the Deodoro complex, which does not include any of the equestrian venues.
