Researchers in France have been studying “Piro-Like Syndrome” in horses for a decade. And now, leading up the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ in Normandy, a database has been launched, which will allow veterinarians to report and track cases.
This syndrome, recognized as a group of symptoms which consistently occur together, is known to result from five different diseases, including:
- Piroplasmosis
- Lyme disease
- Ehrlichiosis
- Leptospirosis
- Equine infectious anemia
The symptoms include:
- fever of unknown origin
- lethargy
- anorexia
