Competing in the CIC 3* International division, Phoenix of Cannington, ON, secured 11th place against stiff competition riding her own Exponential, an 11-year-old Canadian Thoroughbred gelding. A dressage score of 62.3 put the pair tied for 44th place. The pair added only 7.6 time faults on the cross country course designed by Captain Mark Phillips, and had a double clean show jumping effort to finish on a score of 69.9.

“It was a very challenging course with difficult angles to corners and skinny jumps,” said Phoenix. “My horse was amazing. With every competition, he feels more competent. I am very lucky to have him.”

2008 Olympic team member, Mike Winter originally of Toronto, ON, and now residing in Newnan, GA, finished in 18th place on a score of 73.6. With his Olympic partner Kingpin, a 13-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding owned by The Kingpin Syndicate, Winter was sitting in 13th place following dressage on a score of 52.2. The pair added 12.4 cross country time penalties plus eight jumping and one time penalties in show jumping to finish with a score of 73.6.

Stephanie Rhodes-Bosch, 20, of Summerland, BC, and her partner Port Authority, a Canadian bred 11 year-old Selle Francais/Thoroughbred gelding, finished just behind Winter in 20th place in their first CIC 3*. Rhodes-Bosch, who won the individual bronze medal at the CHY 2* division at the 2008 North American Junior/Young Rider Championships riding Port Authority, was in 40th spot following dressage with a score of 61.4. She added only 7.2 cross country time penalties for a final score of 76.0.

“I am just loving my winter working with David O’Connor,” said Rhodes-Bosch. “He has been a great help and I have seen so many improvements.”

Winter and Wonderful Will, Sher and Elliot Schwartz’s 12-year-old American Thoroughbred, finished with a score of 78.6, which was good for 23rd place. Waylon Roberts of Port Perry, ON, riding his own Myrddin’s Sebastian, a nine-year-old Canadian Sport Horse gelding, had a final score of 82.3, which put them in 26th place. Olympic team member Kyle Carter, originally from Calgary, AB, and now living in Sparr, FL, rode Madison Park, an 11-year-old Thoroughbred gelding owned by Carter and Nicole Shinton, and finished in 29th position with a score of 84.3.
