The Equestrian Festival wrapped up Sunday (Aug. 4) at Caledon Equestrian Park (CEP) with Pickering, Ontario’s Miranda Travers-Cavill and KT Levigno besting a starting field of 16 competitors in the $20,000 Grand Prix – presented by Sprucewood tack.
The pair were one of four entries making it to the jump off, with three going clear in both rounds. Travers-Cavill and KT Levigno went third in the second round posting a winning time of 44.89 seconds, nearly 1.5 seconds faster than runners-up Beth Goodwin Franco and Hachi. Adolpho Franco and Claire De Lune M.
On Friday (Aug. 2), it was Peter Gisborn and Bambino Chin P claiming top prize in the $10,000 Open Welcome – presented by McKee-Pownall Equine Services. Brady Hayes and Ridley were second, with Adolpho Franco Claire De Lune M posting the first of their two third-place finishes of the weekend.
The OHJA hosted one of its two “Super Jumper Weekend” on Saturday (Aug. 3) aimed at giving junior and amateur riders a “Grand Prix styled experience.
It would be Laura Vanderpluym and California 94 claiming top prize in the $3,500 1.10m Jr/Am Stake, followed by Best Kept Secret and Chanelle Martin in second and Mackenzie Solomon Owen rounding out the top three.
The second class — the $4,500 OHJA Junior/Amateur 1.20m Stake, presented by OHJA — saw Kevin Maxie and Usty des Dubois top the field. Rylee Poole-Kohli and Un Espoir Du Mas were second, followed by Bianca Isabella and Lunes 9 in third.
The Equestrian Festival also featured the third round of the OHJA’s 2019 Young Hunter Development Series. There is a total of four rounds at shows across Ontario aimed at giving “Ontario breeders and Ontario owners an opportunity to network at Gold Competitions in order to develop and market their young horses and breeding programs.”
Katie Uloth and Quite Simple owned by Kristy Carnovale won both the Young Horse Development Model and Young Horse Development Over Fences classes. Quite Simple, this time piloted by Kendra Martenfeld, also won the under-saddle portion of the competition to make them the Grand Champions.
Coming up this week at the park is the Summer Festival featuring the $25,000 Grand Prix – presented by RAM Equestrian, the $3,000 Canadian Hunter Derby and $3,000 Long Run TB Hunter Challenge final – presented by Schonberg Farm.
Make sure to swing by the park on Aug. 8 for the second installment of “Pommies and Popcorn” Movie Night at the park. The event is open to the public and parking and admission are free. The 2019 edition of the Disney classic “Dumbo” will be screened on the park’s jumbotron and free popcorn is provided. On Aug. 10, exhibitors can square off in the Ride Every Stride Tack Room Awards, with the always-coveted director chair prize up for grabs for the best decorated tack area. That day is also Kids Day at the park, with special activities and a play area on offer.
