It is with disappointment that we announce the withdrawal of Michael Winter and El Mundo from the upcoming FEI World Championships in Aachen, Germany.
During final preparations for the championship, El Mundo “Roberto” sustained an injury and is being given the time and care needed for his recovery.
Winter emphasized that the decision was made with Roberto’s welfare as the highest priority.
“The care and well-being of Roberto, and of all our equine partners, is paramount. The most important thing is that Roberto is here at home, being well cared for. Not because of what he has done for us, or what he may still do, but because he is a valued partner entrusted to our care. We have a responsibility to make the best decisions we can for him, always with his long-term welfare at heart and with the goal of creating the best possible outcomes throughout his career and his life.”
Roberto has had many notable top-level international results both individually and as a member of the Canadian Eventing Team. In recognition of his outstanding accomplishments, he was a deserving recipient of the Equestrian Canada Horse of the Year Award in 2025.
We extend our sincere thanks to Roberto and all of his connections for their contributions to Canadian High Performance Eventing.
While Roberto will not be competing in Aachen, his health and well-being remain the focus. The Canadian Eventing community looks forward to supporting his recovery and celebrating the significant impact he has already made on the sport.
