As part of a study on equine transportation risk factors, researchers at the University of Sydney are requesting input from horse owners. They ask that anyone who has transported horses in the last two years participate in a survey of horse transport practices and transport-related illnesses.
They want to get insight into how people manage and prepare their horses for transportation, the act of transporting horses and how horses are managed after a transport event. In addition, if any diseases or injuries have occurred in horses related to a transport event in the last two years they are interested in documenting and investigating the underlying potential reasons behind these events.
The aim of this study is to gather data to identify transportation risk factors, and therefore potentially making horse transportation safer and less stressful. The survey results will potentially help reduce the incidence of transport related diseases and injuries and thereby be used by the industry as it strives to implement best practices in horse transportation.
