In a season full of uncertainty for auctions, one after the other going fully online, Flanders Foal Auction will go live as before on Saturday, July 4th. With frolicking foals in the ring, public on the sidelines and an inspired auctioneer. Gerald Lenaerts and Luk Van Puymbroeck selected 25 quality showjumping foals to be auctioned in Beervelde, Belgium.
“True, visitors numbers are restricted, we are allowed to invite two hundred people, not counting the staff. We would have much preferred to welcome everybody, but we will have to abide by Belgian law regarding the Corona virus. Patrick Gansbeke, organizer of Flanders Horse Event in Beervelde, will set up tents with room for a table for four to six people. Knowing him, he will manage to make things attractive and we are assured of a great evening”, says Gerald Lenaerts.
Flanders Foal Auction has been working with the live-streaming from Clipmyhorse.tv and the online bidding system from WeAuction for several years, so that the people staying at home can remain involved and place their bids in a simple way. The foal presentation will start at 18.30 hours, the actual auction at 20.00 hours.
Last year’s auction debut in Beervelde produced a record price of 73,000 euro for a Chacco Blue foal and the average price was more than 24,000 euro. “But that was a very special auction. I do not expect to get the same results this year, with all these restrictions. I can feel that there is a lot of goodwill among the breeders. They realise that this year is not like last year and expect to fetch slightly lower prices. But that would not reflect the quality of the foals. We selected foals that we would like to buy ourselves!”
The foals all have splendid conformations, an athletic canter and they come from international sport families and descend from proven sires. “Yes, the sires must be interesting. Our trademaker, in combination with those very good dam lines. It may sound a little dull, but it works for us. The clients want to buy something they can be sure of. That is why we again offer products from Baloubet du Rouet, Chacco Blue, Cornet Obolensky, Comme il Faut, Diamant de Semilly, but also from Balou du Reverton. When you look at those foals, you understand why their sires are real progenitors. They offer something special. Some call this commercial breeding, which sounds somewhat negative, but should not be. The chances are considerably higher that they are top-class foals. Surely, that is good breeding.”
