Ottawa, ON—Canadian Olympian Evi Strasser and her longtime partner, Quantum Tyme, won the Grand Prix and finished third in the Grand prix Speciale at the CDI 3* La Mandria in Italy, April 11–13, 2008.
Strasser rode Quantum Tyme, a 13-year-old Oldenburg gelding (Quattro x Argentinius), to victory in the Grand Prix class with a field of 11 competitors earning 67.125% from the judging panel which included two judges who will be officiating at the 2008 Olympic Games later this summer. The Grand Prix result gave Strasser a score towards qualifying for the Canadian Olympic Dressage Team.
“Quantum was in top form and showed a very strong performance in the Grand Prix,” noted Strasser of her win in the Grand Prix class. “I’m thrilled with him. It was very exciting to hear the Canadian anthem playing so far away from home.”
The pair also finished third in the Grand Prix Special with a score of 66.040%.
“Quantum finally is coming into his form,” remarked Strasser, who competed on the Canadian dressage team at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. “We don’t want to peak him too soon since the competition season is still a long way away until the Olympics.”
Strasser is also very encouraged about the performances of her young upcoming FEI horse Action Tyme, an eight-year-old Oldenburg stallion (Aktuell x Aleksander) who placed fourth in the Prix St. Georges class (65.250%) and third in the Intermediaire I class (65.000%). “Action Tyme is keeping up his top performances over the last few shows,” said Strasser.
The international judging panel at this FEI competition included Isobel Wessels (FEI O—GBR), Maja Stukelj (FEI I—SLO), Freddy Leyman (FEI I—BEL), Barbara Ardu (FEI I—ITA), Massimo Petaccia (FEI C—ITA), Dieter Schuele (FEI O—GER), Leif Toernblad (FEI O—DEN), Ghislain Fouarge (FEI O—HOL), Bernard Maurel (FEI O—FRA), and Dietrich Plewa (FEI I—GER).
Strasser’s plans for Quantum Tyme include competing at the CDI 3* in Saumur, France, April 24–27, 2008.
