Equine Canada invites all equestrian enthusiasts to join us at the 2015 Eventing Senior Course Design Forum, facilitated by renowned FEI 3*/4* course designers, Mike Etherington-Smith and Jay Hambly.
Etherington-Smith is an internationally acclaimed course designer with a resume including the 2010 World Equestrian Games, 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, and 18 years at the CCI 4* Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event. Etherington-Smith was also the technical delegate for the 2004 Athens Olympics and 1999 Pan Am Games, and is a former CEO of British Eventing.
Hambly began building courses in 1995, and became a course designer in 2001. His design work includes the CCI 2* Florida Horse Park, CIC 2* Will O’Wind, CCI 1* Guatemala, and the 2013 Central American Games. In addition, he was part of the course building team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Hambly is also a course facilitator for Equine Canada and a member of the Cross-Country Course Safety Task Force for the United States Eventing Association (USEA).
The forum will take place Oct. 4-5, 2015, with the theoretical portions being held at the Nottawasaga Inn Convention Centre & Golf Resort in Alliston, ON. The course also features practical components, which will take place in the Alliston area (exact location to be determined).
The forum is open to the general public, with no prior experience or training as a course designer required. However, current or aspiring certified Canadian Eventing (CE) course designers and technical delegates can count the forum toward required maintenance training in lieu of the Course Designer Theory Course.
Participants will have the opportunity to discuss current FEI trends in design and safety, and will focus on the revision of the Canadian standards for cross-country course design. The Canadian Eventing Committee recognizes that in order to develop future Olympians, greater focus must be directed on developing riders at the grassroots level on Canadian courses, and this is where the Canadian eventing community plays a role.
