Day two of competition at the MARS Bromont CCI saw the completion of dressage and another top score in the CCI-2*-L from Elisabeth Halliday-Sharp (USA) riding the 10-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding Miks Master C – a horse formerly competed by Maya Black (USA).

Halliday-Sharp now leads the CCI4*-L, CCI3*-L and CCI2*-L divisions. In the CCI4*-S Sara Kozumplik of Berryville, Virginia riding the 17-year-old grey Selle Français gelding Rubens d’Ysieux, bettered 12 others to finish the day in first place on a score of 29.1. Kozumplik noted that her first three-day even was at Bromont in 1997; this year she is riding three horses in the CCI4*-S, CCI3*-L and CCI2*-L divisions.

Looking forward to tackling Saturday’s cross-country course designed by Derek di Grazia and constructed by Jay Hambly, Sara said, “This cross-country course is absolutely to die for. It is one of the best courses in the world. Everyone is so happy to be back here. It is my favourite event maybe outside of Kentucky in North America.”

Twenty-year-old Ayden Schain of Vermont leads the CCI2*-L U25 division on the 9-year-old Zangersheide gelding Fernhill Hole Shot (Allen) owned by Dawn Barclay. (Hole Shot’s name comes from a motorsport racing term referring to leaving the start area in first position.) This event marks Ayden’s first trip across the border.

Due to rain leading up to the event, the CCI4*-L will be first to head out on cross-country, followed by the CCI4-S, CCI3-L, CCI2*-L and U25 divisions. The first rider out of the start box will be Canada’s Jessica Phoenix with Mighty Mouse at 9:00 am and the last rider will be Courtney Cooper (USA) aboard Excel Star First Class at 4:03 pm.

Spectators are welcome and entrance is free. Check out the MARS Bromont cross-country fences in the Cross-Country App. Start times HERE.
