The 2009 Canadian Young Horse Development Finals, originally scheduled for week three (September 9-13) during the Halton Place “Canadian Country Classic” series has been moved to week one (August 26-30) at the request of the Young Horse Jumper Development Committee.

As the series was unfolding this year, it was quickly recognized that many of the top young horses are ridden by several Canadian riders who are logical candidates for the Spruce Meadows Masters in Calgary, September 9-13.

With over $70,000 in prize money, the Ontario and Eastern Championships plus the National Finals are being held for the first time at Halton Place. Previous venues include the former Tournament of Champions for the past three years and prior to that, the Royal Horse Show in Toronto.

“We’re delighted to host the Young Horse Development Championships and Finals,” say Halton Place owner Timur Leckebusch who has graciously agreed to adjust the published schedule and showcase the Finals with ‘front of the line’ treatment as the feature event during week one of the Canadian Country Classic, August 26-30.

Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Chair Phil Henning is looking forward to an outstanding culmination to the national tour which is “enthusiastically supported by the industry and driven by the owners and participants.”

The Championships and Finals will take place on the newly revitalized grass derby ring with VIP hospitality provided during the Championships and Finals. A major investment in footing in 2008, under the professional management of Robert Jolicouer, delivered rave reviews throughout the 2008 season.
