CWHBA 2024 Stallion Tour Concludes

The Canadian Warmblood Horse Breeders’ Association’s 2024 Stallion Licensing Tour was the first since Covid where our international judge traveled within Canada. We were very pleased to have Jan-Ove Olsson return from Sweden to bring his expertise and insights. The tour made three stops: two for licensing – Misty River Ranch in Manitoba and Ulterra Equestrian in Alberta – and one for the Stallion Performance Test at Sun Meadows Equestrian in Kamloops, B.C.

Many thanks to the host facilities and volunteers that supported each event and inspectors Jan-Ove Olsson, Victoria Kendall, Dana Young and Cassanda Morrish. ULTERRA HUSH 2021 (GOLIATH H VDL Z x WHISPER x INDOCTRO)

Powerful push in canter. Long-framed, tall-legged, massive build. Unfortunate past injury likely limited how he presented and he could have shown more rhythm and confidence through the chute and more energy overall.

Good trot for jumper. Showed nice disposition throughout the day. Light type, well-formed neck. Normal development for his age. Canter showed energy and balance.

DONNERLAINE 2019 (DANSE DIABOLIQUE x EBON’S LADY JANE x LANDKÖNIG)

Long-framed, masculine heavier type, well developed. Was fairly correct in movement, with a pleasant disposition. Potential hunter type.

Modern sporty type, average size, good proportions. Good quality and balance in gaits. Could have been more correct.

CANTANERO 2022 (CHACCO-BLUE x MIDSUMMER KISS x MONTENDER)

Imported and owned by Cathy Chalack
Good trot for a jumper. Long-framed, tall-legged, massive build. Good quality of canter and scope. Dam was a competitive 1.50m jumper.

KOASTAL 2021 (KUMANO x IMAJEN x STORM RANGER)

Bred and owned by Tristan Caswell
Long-legged, long-framed more modern type. Well-developed three-year-old. Very correct in conformation and movement.

Stallion Performance Test

Held in Kamloops, BC at Sun Meadows Equestrian. There were two six-year-old stallions presented for acceptance as show jumpers. Both stallions achieved the same overall average, as different types they showed strengths and weaknesses in different areas.

The inspection panel was made up by Jan-Ove Olsson – Senior inspector from Swedish Warmblood, Marion Ostmeyer – Test rider and senior inspector, Marilyn Powell and Victoria Kendall. The opportunity was taken at this test for increasing our local inspectors experience with our short format SPT. As such we had Janice Tyndall, Julie Pilon, and Joy Cook join as shadow inspectors to the panel.

A.S. SANDRO’S SECRET 2018 (SAGNOL x VICTORIAS SECRET x RIVERMAN)

Bred and owned by Andre Sigmond, presented by Travis Root
Is well put together, long-framed, with correct gaits. Showed wonderful character and rideability throughout the test days. His potential versatility in multiple disciplines was evident through the test days, though presented in the Jumper discipline.

NIGHT’S WATCH 2018 (KANNAN GFE x GWENHWYVAR x CANTOS)

Bred by Alison Moore, owned by Rosenol Performance Horses, presented by Travis Root
Is an attractive, well-developed, slightly short-framed, with an especially good canter. Is green for his age but has promising jump showing potential for show jumping.
