It was a battle of the titans as 37 of the world’s top show jumping riders took on a masterful track set by Ireland’s Alan Wade and his course designing team in the WEC Grand Arena. Nine of those entries produced a clear round to move forward to the jump-off, where six again jumped clear.

Partnered with Nikka vd Bisschop, Mallevaey, currently second in the Under 25 rankings, impressed with a clear round in a time of 41.14 seconds to take third, edging Gochman down to fourth place with her time of 41.20 seconds riding Inclen BH. World number one Henrik von Eckermann rounded out the top five with a clear round in a time of 42.22 with the fan favorite, King Edward.

Richard Vogel, currently ninth on the Longines World Rankings, won the $32,000 Dutta Corporation Grand Prix Qualifier CSI2* held on Thursday afternoon. Riding Phenyo van het Keysersbos, a 10-year-old Belgian Warmblood stallion, the German Olympian topped a 14-horse jump-off to claim victory over Mallevaey who was aboard My Clementine. USA Jumping team veteran Laura Kraut placed third with a double clear performance aboard Lady D.

As they did last year, Kukuk and Vogel will once again represent Germany in the Longines League of Nations™ team competition. Germany will look to improve on its fifth-place finish as the battle begins with Belgium, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States in the two-round $770,000 Longines League of Nations™. However, the United States will hope to have the final say with an experienced team of Lillie Keenan, Laura Kraut, Aaron Vale, and McLain
Ward.

The $120,000 Winning Round CSIO5*-LLN scheduled for 3 p.m. will be the highlight of Friday’s schedule.
