One rail during the CCI3* show jumping made all the difference. Top riders know all too well how things can change. The good news for Jenny Caras (USA) was that she had a flawless round and it was Lynn Symansky (USA) who had the rail on her mount Under Suspection.
Jenny shared today that while Fernhill Fortitude (Forty) is her “best buddy” who she “could not be happier with” had an interesting record of never winning an event. This is to say that the 14 year old Irish Sport Horse gelding had not won in almost 70 competitions.
As the winner of the CCI3*, Jenny and Forty were presented with the Todd Sandler Perpetual Trophy.
The MARS Incorporated Bromont CCI Three Day Event is proud to host The Todd Sandler Challenge in memory of an aspiring young event rider, Todd Sandler, who died tragically in a car accident while returning home from grooming and lending a helping hand to fellow Canadians at the 1999 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event.
Jessica Phoenix Wins CIC2*
In the CIC2* division of 22 riders Canada’s Jessica Phoenix, an Uxbridge, Ontario resident and gold medalist added nothing to her score in show jumping on the 11 year old grey Trakehner gelding Bentley’s Best.
The horse which is owned by The Bentley’s Best Group already has a good mix of top placed finishes to his name and may be headed towards the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru next year.
Winning was a special moment for Jessie with family there to watch and “to hear the anthem on Canadian soil. It’s pretty awesome.”
Boyd Martin who is no stranger to the podium rode Contessa to a win in the CCI2* ahead of 31 other competitors on their dressage score of 32.00. A close competition with Clark Montgomery (USA) riding Caribbean Soul always just .40 penalties away from beginning to end.
Boyd receives a cooler provided by Sandridge Saddlery and the Eaman Perpetual Trophy, a beautiful bronze donated by Debbie and Skip Eaman, long-time supporters and dedicated friends of the Bromont CCI.
Best Presented Horse in CCI2* was awarded this year to FE Mississippi ridden by Dana Cooke (CAN) and groomed by Tesla Parker (USA). The award includes a DOYON brand cooler, a beautiful leather halter and lead. The winners are selected by the ground jury and sponsored by AKKA LEGACY.
The CCI1* which was the first division of the day to go and the largest saw Annie Goodwin take the win on Fedarman B with a final score of 27.10. This is Annie’s first visit to Bromont and there is already talk to returning.
At the conclusion of the CCI1* the Ledger Family Award was presented in the main arena. The award is offered by Dr. Gabby Ledger and her family to the top amateur rider in the CCI1* division.
To be eligible, a rider needs to have a full-time job outside the equestrian world and face the ultimate challenge of balancing their professional responsibilities with the love of eventing.
The winner of the Ledger Family Award for 2018 is Abby Maude, an interior designer in New York City by day and a devoted Eventer by night. Abby receives a cheque for $1000, a beautiful bronze depicting an Eventer in full flight and a commemorative cooler.
The Best Groom Award which goes to a groom in any division during Bromont CCI by the ground jury was presented to Jeannie Lussier, groom for Colleen Loach. Jeannie receives a $200 gift certificate from Laura’s Tack Room.
This award recognizes the exceptional services grooms provide to both horse and rider. The jury noted that all FOUR horses ridden by Colleen were impeccably prepared for presentation.
Junior and Young Rider awards this year in the CCI1* go to Caty Nolan (1st), Olivia Hayes (2nd) and Brittney Anderson (3rd).
Bromont CCI, which has featured top competition for three decades, will be welcoming some of the best horse-and-rider combinations from all over North America in CCI1*, CCI2*, CIC2* and CCI3* divisions. Bromont stands alone as the only venue in Canada which offers a CCI3*-level competition.
