Jump Canada has announced that Canada has been invited to compete with two teams at the CSIO5*-W Spruce Meadows ‘Continental’ Tournament-which is acting as the second of two North American regional qualifiers for the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping Final, set to take place in Barcelona, ESP from September 26-29, 2013.

Although Canada will compete at the ‘Continental’ Tournament with two teams, only one (Canada One) will be a designated “points team” in the hopes of qualifying for the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Final in Barcelona. A new formula was introduced for the 2013 FEI Nations Cup™ Series, following a sponsorship deal with the Saudi Equestrian Fund. Under the new formula, the world has been divided into six regions (Europe Divisions 1 and 2, North and Central America/Caribbean, South America, Middle East, Asia/Australasia, and Africa) for the purposes of qualifying teams for a spot at the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Jumping 2013 Final. Only 18 teams from seven leagues will go forward to the Final after 22 qualifying rounds.

The first North American regional qualifier for the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ was held in the form of a $75,000 Nations Cup Qualifier class at the CSIO4* FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL this past March. Team Canada (comprised of Cone, Foster, Lamaze, and Millar) took second place, giving them 90 qualifying points. The U.S. finished in first place, earning the maximum 100 qualifying points for the series, while Mexico finished in seventh for 65 points.
